Guided hike on Faial around the Caldeira
Walking is a wonderful way to get to know our surroundings. Away from paved roads and towns, Faial's beautiful hiking trails offer a unique perspective of the island. This magic and beauty is reserved for those who take each meter at their own pace, step by step. The following guided half-day hikes lead up, over and to beautiful volcanoes on the island of Faial.
Circular hike around the "Caldeira"
This guided circular hike starts at a beautiful lookout point and always leads along the edge of the collapse crater, the "Caldeira". The easily accessible, approx. 8 km long hiking trail offers magnificent views of the coastal sections of the island of Faial and the neighboring islands. The views into the green crater are also magnificent when visibility is good. Several boggy spots, differently colored mosses and a small crater at the bottom of the Caldeira offer wonderful photo opportunities. The collapse crater has a diameter of approx. 2 km and a depth of approx. 400 m. The hiking trail leads steadily up and down past endemic flora such as the small-leaved juniper (Juniperus brevifolia), the tree heather (Erica azorica) and the blueberry tree (Vaccinum cylindraceum).
A certified English-speaking nature park guide will accompany you. Please remember to bring hiking or trekking shoes, wind- and rainproof clothing, drinking water and a snack for on the way.
