Due to their central location in the North Atlantic, the Azores are an interesting destination for observing different species of migratory birds from the American and Eurasian continents. Some of these migratory birds can only occasionally be spotted on the Azores, as they are repeatedly diverted from their actual flight route by the weather and land on the Azores “unplanned”, so to speak. However, there are also seabird species that come to the Azores regularly and “on purpose” to nest and raise their offspring. They stay in the Azores from spring to fall. Endemic bird species and their subspecies, which populate the Azores all year round, can be spotted with binoculars at any time of year and in different places.
