São Miguel by bike - discover the Green Island on the saddle of a bike
Experience the largest and most diverse of all the Azores islands on the back of a bike. For a week, turn your back on the usual means of transportation - by rental car and on foot - and experience the beauty of the island by bike.
During this week, you will spend the night in a total of 3 different accommodations, including the fantastic 4-star Hotel Terra Nostra Garden in the botanical garden of Furnas. They are all individually and beautifully situated. Of course, you don't need to worry about your luggage when you change accommodation, it will be transported for you. If you`d like to discover even more interesting spots in São Miguel, you can book an extension of your journey with us. We`ll be happy to assist you with excursions, accommodations and rental car. Just get in touch! Or you can discover more of the 9 beautiful islands by extending your vacation for another week. The trip is organized by one of our selected partners. Prices for one person traveling alone, 2 people in single rooms or small groups on request. This trip is also available with e-bikes (mountain bikes) for an additional charge, please contact us! This tour is not suitable for people with reduced mobility. 
1. Day 
Arrival to São Miguel International arrival at Ponta Delgada airport (flight booked by you individually). Transfer from the airport to your hotel in Capelas. You`ll be accommodated in the beautiful Hotel Solar do Conde (or a hotel of comparable standard) for 3 nights. A truly good place to unwind and relax!
2. Day 
Receipt of your bike and the first tour - "Pineapple Tour" Today in the morning you`ll receive your rental bike at the hotel and keep it for the coming week. Go on your first round trip, which is all about pineapples. (Suggested tour: 33 km).
3. Day 
Sete Cidades and its crater lakes Today your first big tour takes you from your accommodation to the west of the Island, to Sete Cidades and the beautiful crater lakes Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde. Take in beautiful nature and legends surrounding Sete Cidades before cycling back to your hotel (approx. 44 kilometers total cycling distance).
4. Day 
Off to Furnas Today your route leads you to Furnas (approx. 45 km total cycling distance, + 400 m / - 200 m). Take your first break in Ribeira Grande, the largest town on the north coast. There one of the longest and most beautiful sandy beaches on the island stretches to the southwest. Another highlight on your way is the only tea plantation in Europe. Take a break and enjoy a cup of "Chá Gorreana". The last 15 km (9,3 miles) lead uphill up to 400 meters (1312,34 feet / 437,44 yards) in altitude. At the end, the Pico do Ferro viewpoint awaits you with fantastic views over Lake Furnas and the surrounding lush green mountains. Now it's downhill to the village of Furnas, the site of the hot springs, and to your next accommodation. During 3 nights, youll be staying at the stylish 4-star Hotel Terra Nostra Garden, which is located right on the edge of the famous botanical garden with its natural thermal pool. Off course your luggage will be transported to your new accommodation today.
5. Day 
Cycle tour to Lake Furnas and Ribeira Quente Today's easy circular tour (total cycling distance approx. 22 km) first takes you to Lake Furnas. There, on the edge of the lake, the famous "cozido" is cooked in natually hot holes in the ground. The delicious stew is cooked for hours using geothermal heat alone. A unique experience, be sure to taste the meal ! On your way back your path leads to the small fishing village of Ribeira Quente on the south coast of São Miguel. Don't forget to bring your swimsuit, as there is a lovely bathing spot!
6. Day 
Day at your leisure or cycling tour to Povoação Relax in your beautiful hotel or in Terra Nostra Park. Go for a stroll through Furnas and discover more hot springs. Or cycle to the coastal village of Povoação, which has a lovely town center. However, there are a few climbs along the way...
7. Day 
Off to Água d'Alto Today your cycle route leads you along the south coast to the former capital Vila Franca do Campo (total cycling distance approx. 24 km, at the beginning of tour approx. 3 km uphill until 400 m altitude - after easy tour with flat terrain or downhill). Enjoy magnificent views of the offshore island during your tour. Off course, your luggage will be delivered to your new accommodation, the 4-star Hotel Pestana Bahia Praia, your home for the last night.
8. Day 
Departure or extension of your journey Today you have to say goodbye to your bike. Today you have to say goodbye to your bike. You may also have to depart from Sao Miguel - in this case you`ll get a transfer to the airport. Or you may have decided for an extension of your journey and receive your rental car at your accommodation. Or perhaps you`d like to visit another of the 9 beautiful Azores islands?
