Casa do António accommodation is located in the middle of picturesque Velas, the island’s largest town, on the south side of São Jorge Island. The guesthouse in a beautifully renovated Art Deco building has single, double, and triple rooms, with the double rooms including a tower room. All rooms afford magnificent views of either the blue Atlantic, the neighbouring island of Pico with its majestic towering volcano, or the harbour. The ferry port with regular ferry connections to the neighbouring islands of Pico and Faial is just a few steps away. Several restaurants, shops, the main square with a historical church building, the stylish town park, and the historical town hall are in the immediate vicinity. The village has two beautiful natural bathing spots in the sea to cool off on hot days. Those inclined to exercise may climb the local mountain. A path leads up to a dilapidated former whale lookout that still affords a magnificent views of the village of Velas and the sea. Velas is home to several historical buildings with the wrought-iron balconies typical of Azorean towns. Trade in oranges, wine, and other goods once helped this pretty place come to some modest prosperity.
