On the south coast of the beautiful hiking island of São Jorge, in the small village of Fajã do Cavalete, you will find the Abrigo da Cascata accommodation - the "accommodation by the waterfall". The village, which consists of only a few houses and is mainly devoted to wine-growing, is close to the somewhat larger village of Fajã dos Vimes and relatively close to the town of Calheta. Five stylish and high-quality rooms for two or more people are spread over two of the four houses on the complex. These include the main house, the so-called "little house", the "water mill" and the laundry house. The houses of the rural accommodation have been tastefully and comfortably restored, in great harmony with their original, traditional architectural style. The rooms are furnished in a modern style and equipped with all the comforts of a hotel room. A communal lounge as well as a communal kitchen in the main house are an offer to the community spirit of the vacation guests. The accommodation has made sustainability its principle. It has therefore been awarded the "Miosotis Azores" logo by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of the Azores regional government. This distinguishes the accommodation for good environmental practices, taking into account the aspects of water, energy, waste, biodiversity, local value creation, environmental management and well-prepared information for guests. Three of the five rooms (rooms 1-3) are located on the upper floor of the main house, two more (rooms 4-5) on the upper and lower floors of the so-called "small" house. The main house also houses the kitchen and the common room in the basement. The "watermill" is now the reception office for checking guests in and out. It also provides information on activities and sights around the island. The laundry is used exclusively by the accommodation staff. All rooms are equipped with closet, private bathroom (with hairdryer and complimentary toiletries), tea and coffee making facilities, safe, small vacuum cleaner, flat screen TV, towels, beach towels, umbrellas and raincoats and a minibar (for a fee). All rooms are also equipped with two single beds (1x 2m), which can be converted into a king-size bed (2x 2m). Rooms 3, 4 and 5 are also equipped with a sofa bed (1.90 x 1.20m), suitable for 2 children or one adult.
