Full or half-day Lusitano horse-trekking on Faial

Quinta do Moinho, the center of horse-trekking in the Azores. Pátio is the Portuguese member of the German Wanderreiter Academy. Riders, nature and island lovers from all over the world meet here. Quinta do Moinho is home to the original Cruzados Portuguese and Lusitanos herd. Quinta do Moinho is a stylish and pleasurable facility with a touch of adventure. From the property’s endless view over the Atlantic, you will find gentle hills, the 2.351 meters high volcano of the island of Pico and in the distance the islands of São Jorge and Graciosa.

Patio offers 3-hour (1/2 day) or a 5-hour (full day) trails. Through old paths you ride through the town of Cedros and reach the laurel jungle. In a haunted valley, you cross a small ford and continue riding over green meadows up the mountain. A magnificent view appears onto the bright blue Atlantic.
The trot continues through a beautiful landscape to the Yams fields of Cedros. After some time you will reach the highest village of the island, Ribeira Funda. The old farmhouses and an exciting view into the valley of Ribeira Funda which are above the windscreen screaming hawks circling. Back on the cliff, you ride to the old whale watching point "Cabeço da Vigia", located on a small volcano, with over 200 degrees of blue Atlantic Ocean views. If you're lucky you can watch passing whales and dolphins. Follow the route along century-old farmhouses until you finally arrive at Quinta do Moinho.

During the all-day trail, lunch is available as a saddlebag picnic. Pátio offers special trail equipment (rider saddle, saddlebag and Australian raincoats). The horses are well-trained Lusitanos or Cruzado Portuguese. The average height at the withers is 1.55 meters.

The course of the trail may change due to weather conditions.

Necessary riding experience: saddle in the 3 basic gaits, even on uneven terrain. Easy trotting and easy galloping. Good condition and endurance. Athletic. Already several-hour rides undertaken. Minimum age 16 years (including by arrangement). Maximum rider weight 95 kg
Further information: duration 10-14:30 o'clock (half-day trail) or 10-17:30 o'clock (full-day trail), minimum participant 1 / maximum participant 9, all-year bookable, also transfers from / to accommodation or ferry port of Horta available ( extra charge);
important note: It is a trail in the Azores. The islands are located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. From time to time meteorological conditions (storm, tropical heavy rainfall) can influence the course of the trail. For safety reasons, the trail guide can change the course of the trail or stop the trail during these conditions.
What needs to be taken: Pátio has equipment in stock but recommends the following equipment for personal safety and size reasons: waterproof trekking footwear, windproof and waterproof jackets and pants, riding cap. Australian raincoats can be rented for 5 € / day.
