Hiking along waterways: guided half-d

Let yourself be whisked away on an exciting tour along important waterways on the island of Flores. The guided hike starts at the Ponta Ruiva headland in the north of the island of Flores and ends at the dam of the hydroelectric power plant at Fazenda de Santa Cruz. Your certified guide will provide you with exciting information about the history of the island of Flores and the role that these waterways have played and still play today. During the hike, you`ll get an idea of the hard work behind the cultivation of the land and how laborious life of those must have been who once cultivated the land. Today, the survival of the islanders no longer depends on agriculture. Your hiking route leads up and down, spiced up with wonderful views of the coast, its offshore rocks and the neighboring island of Corvo. At Ponta Ruiva, the route first descends along the coast and then leads through the village of Cedros to Alagoa with its magnificent lookout point. From there, the route climbs steeply again and continues to the last section of the route. This leads steadily along an important watercourse. This used to flow untamed, but today it is the guarantor of energy supply for a large part of the island. Today's hiking trail ends at the dam of the hydroelectric power station. At the end, however, a delicious reward awaits you - a cheese tasting of local cheese, made with local expertise.

Organizer's recommendation: please remember to bring hiking boots, comfortable clothing, a light rain jacket, rucksack, a spare T-shirt or shirt, sun lotion, protective headgear, snack and drinking water.
Please note: the tour is usually carried out on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. However, if you`d like to do the tour on one of the other weekdays, you can book it as a "private tour" with a small surcharge of €25 per person.
